Body ProductsLocally made. Motherlove Herbal Company If the name Kathryn Higgins rings a bell, it may be because she is a nationally recognized herbalist, teacher and author of the "Pocket Guide to Wild Edible and Medicinal Plants." Inspired more than 35 years ago in a CSU class on wild edible plant identification, Kathryn began incorporating such plants as dandelion and nettles into meals. During the 1970s she lived in a tepee surrounded by fields of wildflowers and herbs and when pregnant with her first child, gleaned herbs from the Rocky Mountains to make teas, oils, baths and liquid extracts to enhance her birth experience. Seeds were thus planted for Motherlove Herbal products, estalished in 1990. Since then, Kathryn has taught classes to those eager to learn how to make herbal medicines and personal-care products. She also educates on the ethics of harvesting wild plants. A guest speaker for the La Leche League and the National Natural Pharmacy, she has also written for a number of publications and her products were featured on ABC's "Good Morning America." Motherlove Herbal Co., a leader in herbal products for pregnancy, birth, breast-feeding and babies, has earned the trust of lactation consultants, midwives, health-care practioners and mothers worldwide. Her products are availabe locally at natural foods stores, pharmacies, hospitals, maternity and breast-feeding centers, child-birth centers, throgh lactation consultants and online at www.motherlove.com. They are also distributed in Asia, Europe, Mexico and Canada. In 2005, as part of its 15th anniversary celebration, Motherlove Herbal Co. created the Nurturing Life Foundation, a private non-profit with a two-fold mission of promoting breastfeeding and supporting mothers in need; as well as creating opportunities for children nationwide. Kathryn actively supports organic farming, purchases recycled pckaging and ofice supplies, and buys wind-power credit for the production site. No products or ingredients are ever tested on animals. In 2006, Kathryn introduced a new line of products - this time for animals. Mammal Mama sells certified organic lactation herb formulas to support animal milk production. (www.mammalmama.com) Now running two companies, Kathryn continues to teach on the self-empowerment of knowing and using plants that surround us and on the opportunity the information holds for personal growth and planetary responsibility.
