Nurturing Life Newsletter

WELCOME to Motherlove Herbal Company's premier issue! I am Kathryn Higgins, founder of Motherlove. I created this company from my own personal experience as a new mother and herbalist. While pregnant with my oldest daughter, I wanted products with the purest and highest quality ingredients. I turned to nature and what grew outside my door in the mountains of Colorado. As word of the effectiveness of the products I made in my kitchen spread, Motherlove was born to share with new mothers around the world.

I now invite you to be a part of the happenings here at Motherlove through our quarterly newsletter. We will be highlighting information on pregnancy, breastfeeding and the herbs we use here at Motherlove. We will also update you on company news and timely information. You are doing the most important work, Nurturing Life. So please share what topics you care about as this newsletter is for you!

Herb of the Quarter: Calming Chamomile

Many of you have probably breathed in the heavenly scent in our "BabyMe" Bath, perhaps it smelled familiar, like something you remembered as a child - you are experiencing chamomile.

Chamomile is a highly aromatic herb with finely cut leaves and small, many-rayed white flowers with yellow centers that bloom daily throughout its growing season.

Chamomile tea is known for its calming effects. It's the tea most widely used worldwide to lessen irritability and anxiety, and promote restful sleep in children and adults. It's very effective as a digestive aid for gas, colic, and to relieve an upset stomach. An oil made with chamomile softens dry, irritated and chapped skin. Chamomile also adds elasticity to the skin. Rub it into sore, tight muscles and strained muscles. Add it to your bath for a relaxing soak to relieve stress and tension. Chamomile is an herb that you definitely want to include in your herb garden. Easy to grow, lovely to look at and uplifting to the senses, not to mention all the ways to use chamomile! The little black seeds are microscopic. To plant, carefully sprinkle the seeds in full sun-try not to dump too many in one place-and cover very lightly. Within two weeks a carpet of small, green seedlings will appear. Thin these to small clumps several inches apart, as they grow larger. Harvesting chamomile flowers singly or by raking handfuls through your fingers is a sensory delight.

I made chamomile sleep pillows with all three of my children. Sew a small pillow of satin or soft flannel on three sides, fill with dried chamomile flowers and sew closed. Enjoy your sleep filled nights and sweet dreams! Click here for more information on chamomile.
