Rose | Rosa spp.
That’s right, the flowering plant you have seen so many times in gardens and front yards is a helpful herb! Though you can use the entire plant, we use the small, seed pods of the plant, called rosehips. Rose has a beautiful, light aromatic smell, which is why it is such a popular flower.
Why You Might Find it Helpful: Rosehips contain anti-inflammatory fatty acids and several antioxidants (vitamins A and C) to fade scars and blemishes. Studies have even shown that rosehip powder noticeably moisturized and increased collagen levels in subjects’ skin.
Rosehips also contains lycopene and beta-carotene, which is said to have skin-lightening properties to assist with hyperpigmentation. Due to this, Motherlove uses rosehips in our Pregnant Belly Oil, Pregnant Belly Salve, and C-Section Cream to help prevent scarring and soothe irritated skin.
What It Looks Like: Roses have long, thorn-covered stalks that flower with five petals. Each petal is defined by two distinct lobes that range in color from red, pink, white, or yellow.
Things to Know: Rosehips allergic reactions can occur. If you experience allergy symptoms, please refrain from continually using products with rosehips as an ingredient.
