Goat’s Rue

Goat’s Rue

Why We Love It:

For centuries, goat’s rue has been used as a natural galactagogue for both women and dairy cows. What makes goat’s rue unique for breastfeeding is that it helps support mammary tissue and encourage milk supply. Goat’s rue is one of the most popular herbs to support lactation. This herb is recommended for many women but is especially helpful for women with previous breast surgeries, moms who want to relactate, and adoptive moms.

Larger than recommended amounts of goat’s rue may lower blood sugar levels, so if you are insulin-dependent, we recommend speaking with your healthcare provider prior to taking goat’s rue.

What It Looks Like:

Goat’s rue grows 2-3 feet tall and has branching stems with oval, opposite leaves. The long flower’s stalk produces many light purple-to-pink flowers. Goat’s rue comes from the pea family, as do peanuts, chickpeas, garden peas, and beans.
